Our guest article on ‘Involving your users’ comes from Jack Gold, an expert in mobile computing. Jack touches on the thorny issue that many mobile deployments fail to achieve a positive return if they don’t have a well-thought-out mobile strategy that addresses the overall needs of the organisation.
And don’t miss our news story on the launch of mprodigy™ v1.9 – it is packed with new value-add features for our channel partners and customers.
In this issue, my ‘top tips’ are:
| 1 |
Look at the lifecycle of the whole project, not just the purchase of the devices. You need to have a five year view which starts with the initial planning and selection phase, then covers implementing the system, the operational phase, through to maximising your investment. |
| 2 |
Listen to your users and get it right from the start. If you antagonise users during the early deployment, it can be extremely difficult to turn them around. |

Maximise the value of your line-of-business mobile solution |
Julie Purves, Managing Director of B2M Solutions, explains why it is vital to recognise the different management needs for line-of-business and Personal Information Management (PIM) applications.
The mobile revolution that is poised to take off will meet the needs of a very different type of worker than the PIM user. It is starting to engulf the mobile workforce that operates outside the traditional four walls to that of the Extended Enterprise. |

Jack E. Gold, a recognised expert in mobile computing and founder/principal analyst at technology research firm J. Gold Associates, believes it is imperative that any company undertaking a mobility project has a firm understanding of the business needs and requirements of any end-user groups. Furthermore, this understanding must extend to the “big picture” of how each initiative will fit into the overall corporate strategy for mobility. |
