I attended Service Management Expo (SMe) at the NEC in Birmingham recently. SMe focuses on the field services market and seems to be on the up. People return to the show each year because it seems to offer a good mix of the suppliers they want to meet, seminars of interest and peers to network with. Among the speakers this year was Kim Gasson, CTO for Field Force Automation at BT Global Services. Kim's talk was well received and his vast experience and knowledge of implementing mobile projects was clear. There was one gem of information he repeated a number of times to ensure that all of us in the audience understood, "Before you spend loads of time and effort on deploying any IT project, make sure you have a clear view of the business process you are automating."
